Sea Snakes (Elapidae)






























1. Amongst the most poisonous snakes on the planet, although when they do bite people they rarely envenomate, leaving few recorded cases of human deaths.
2. The largest species (Hydrophis spiralis) grows to 3m
3. The sea kraits are restricted to land when breeding and mating, but other sea snake groups give birth to live young in the open ocean. Also sea snakes need to breathe air.













4. Have flattened tails to help swim.
5. They are rarely aggressive towards people, almost to the point of being reluctant to bite. They will be become much more aggressive when brought onto dry land though.
6. Have been know to congregate in huge numbers. One reported instance is of millions of Astrotia Strokesii forming a line of snakes 3metres wide and 10km long.
7. Most feed on fish, mainly eels. But some species specialise in crustaceans and there is recorded cases of eating fish eggs. They will also take bait from fishing lines.

Frogfish (Antennariidae)















1. A species of anglerfish.
2. Has strongly developed pectoral fins which have developed like arms. Uses them to cling onto coral.
3. The young mimic foul-tasting flat worms and sea slugs to avoid predation.
4. Like most anglerfish it uses a bio-luminescent light to attract prey.
5. Largest species grows to 38cm.

Elephant Seal (Mirounga Leonina)














1. The largest and heaviest Carnivoran to have ever existed, approaching an elephant in weight. The largest recorded was 6.85metres long and weighed 5.5tons.
2. Show the greatest sexual dimorphism known in mammals, with the females being one third the size of the males.
3. One recorded individual had an intestinal tract measuring 202metres.
4. Can hold their breathe for 80 minutes, longer than any other non-cetacean mammal.
5. Have the most flexible spines known for a mammal and can eat a fish off their back flippers.
6. Their large noses are used as sound amplifiers when defending territory.

Binturong (Arctictis binturong)











1. Often called a bearcat. It is neither. It is related to civets and genets.
2. Its tail is prehensile so it can chuck stuff at you.
3. They smell of warm popcorn.
4. The size of a small dog, if a small dog was in a tree.
5. They live in southeast asia.
6. Vicious when cornered.
7. Fruit-eaters, but have been known to sample a wide range of dishes
8. One of only 2 carnivora's to have developed a prehensile tail, the other being the kinkajou(A creature for another post)
9. Apparently easily domesticated into becoming pets
